Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Wastewater Chief Plant Operator, performs laboratory testing for Wastewater treatment and collection system; and assists in any of the following areas: Treatment operations, Wastewater repair/administration, computer troubleshooting, and record keeping.

Work involves completing daily laboratory testing for plant process control. Work also involves the monthly collection and shipment of samples to third party laboratories. Duties include troubleshooting and analyzing problems, estimating costs, and planning projects. Employee handles normal recurring assignments on his/her own, referring new and unusual matters, or policy questions, to others.

  • Performs sample collection, laboratory testing, and record keeping.
  • Makes recommendations for purchase of equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Prepares cost estimates and planning for projects.
  • Operates instrumentation, power tools, hand tools, and related equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Other Duties

  • Assists with Wastewater treatment plant operations.
  • Shift work will be required.
  • May be required to assist with laboratory testing and the collection of samples at the water treatment plant.

Knowledge’s, Abilities and Skills

  • Knowledge of Wastewater laboratory procedures, Wastewater treatment, collection systems, industrial facilities, record keeping, and safety regulations.
  • Ability to perform computer data entry, use common and specialized software. Project planning and estimating costs are desirable.
  • Knowledge of water laboratory procedures, water treatment and distribution systems is preferred.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge’s, abilities and skills may be substituted.)

 

Training and/or Education

  • Bachelor’s of Science Degree preferred. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in chemistry, biology, or math.

 

Experience

  • Specialized training in laboratory analysis preferred.
  • Chemistry and/or biology background preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of water and wastewater laboratory testing.
  • Experience in water and wastewater treatment.
  • Collection & distribution experience preferred.

Licenses or Certificates

  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado class “R” driver license.
  • Acquire and maintain Class “D” certification in wastewater within one year, preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent use of keyboard devices, frequently requires heavy lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, crawling, crouching, climbing and walking over rough terrain.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full-time position. Regularly scheduled days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Special Requirements

  • Must provide own safety footwear.
  • Must abide by current Colorado Regulation Number 100 - Water and Wastewater Facility Operator Certification Requirements.
  • Must abide by the current Colorado Certified Water Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Adapts to changing situations, processes, and regulations.

Unusual Demands

 

  • Worker is subject to frequent interruptions and deadlines; subject to being on call; may be required to work unusual hours, weekends and holidays; subject to work in hazards and unpleasant conditions; occasional exposure to inclement weather.
  • Employee maybe required to work unusual hours.

 

This position is a “safety-sensitive” position and will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
