This position plays a critical role in ensuring that our treatment processes operate safely, efficiently, and continuously, directly supporting public health and essential city operations.

SCADA roles in municipal utilities are uniquely impactful: you'll be working with complex controls, automation hardware, and software that operate 24/7—keeping vital infrastructure functioning for an entire community. If you enjoy troubleshooting, working with your hands, solving technical puzzles, and being part of an environment where your work truly matters, this is a great opportunity for you.

Posted pay range is the starting salary.  Pay rate offered is based on experience.

The Hiring Pay Range for this position is $54,080 to $66,040 annually.

Examples of Duties

As a SCADA Technician, you will be hands-on with the equipment and software that keep our wastewater systems operating. You'll:

  • Program and update SCADA systems by developing new code, editing existing programs, archiving files, and querying historian databases
  • Work with platforms such as WonderWare InTouch, INSQL, and Modicon Concept
  • Diagnose and repair issues using schematic drawings, monitoring tools, and digital test equipment
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on SCADA components across the plant
  • Assemble, test, deploy, and integrate field and HMI components
  • Maintain and troubleshoot uninterruptible power supply (UPS) equipment, including capacity testing and battery replacement
  • Calibrate monitoring instruments using specialized test equipment and direct others in calibration activities
  • Respond as the first line of support during outages, alarms, or equipment failures
  • Coordinate work activities with operators, plant staff, vendors, and contractors
  • Document all maintenance, testing, repairs, and system changes accurately

Experience and Training

You’re someone who enjoys technical work, problem-solving, and working with sophisticated equipment. You stay calm during urgent issues, communicate well with plant staff, and take pride in keeping critical systems reliable and up to date.

You’re a strong candidate if you:

  • Have a knack for diagnostics and enjoy understanding how systems connect
  • Are comfortable learning software, instrumentation, and automation tools
  • Enjoy a mix of office, field, and hands-on mechanical/electrical work
  • Want a stable career path in water/wastewater operations, automation, or industrial controls

Municipal utility experience is helpful—but not required. We’re ready to train motivated candidates with a technical foundation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree, diploma, or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Additional work experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
  • At least one (1) year of SCADA technician experience or similar technical role

Certificates and Licenses Required

  • Valid Class C driver's license.

  • Wastewater Operator D License within 6 months of hire.

  • Surface Water C or Water Distribution Operator C (TCEQ) within 2 years of hire.
