Summary

  • Hires, trains, supervises, and coordinates the work of employees engaged in repairing and maintaining water/wastewater system mechanical equipment.   

Essential Functions

  • Plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of mechanics and maintenance personnel of water/wastewater utilities;                             
  • Requisition necessary repair parts and supplies and maintain an adequate
    inventory for timely repairs;                                              
  • Develop and implement equipment preventive maintenance and operation   
    schedules;                                                                 
  • Direct and participate in the more complex equipment repairs and       
    installations;                                                             
  • Train employees in mechanical repair skills and industrial safety;     
  • Assist with budget documentation and preparation and monitor budget    
    expenditures;                                                              
  • Ensure safe maintenance procedures and enforce the rules of industrial
    safety;                                                                  
  • Prepare written reports and oral presentations concerning maintenance
    activities;                                                              
  • Prepare presonnel performance evaluations, accident investigations   
    reports, disciplinary actions, and other documents pertaining to employee
    relations;                                                               
  • Perform related duties as directed.                                 

Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent. Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair of heavy industrial plant equipment, including supervisory experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following knowledge, and abilities:    

 Physical Exam Required

Valid Current Commercial Driver's License
Position in Water Reclamation does not require CDL.

*** Critical Infrastructure:  This position has been determined to have close contact with, or control of Critical Infrastructure components. This position is subject to extensive background checks and random drug screening. ***

            

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Techniques and methods of mechanical repair of heavy stationary equipment; techniques of welding; types of industrial coatings.                     
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.                      
  • Obtain a class "C" Water or Wastewater certificate within two years. 
  • Supervise the work of others.                                        
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports.                       
  • Properly use Self-contained breathing apparatus. Requires employee to
    be clean-shaven.                                                         
Physical Requirements:
1. frequently lift and carry and lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
2. occasionally stand and walk during the shift.
3. occasionally climb stairs, ladders, and other inclined surfaces
4. occasionally push and pull objects
5. occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
6. place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
7. coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
8. frequently bend and kneel during shift
