HIRING RANGE: $26.70- $30.05 per hour.

About the Position: 
As a Utilities Maintenance Technician for the Wastewater Division, you will be responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of the City's wastewater collection systems. This includes working with sewer lines, lift stations, and related infrastructure to ensure safe and reliable wastewater services for the community. The ideal candidate is someone who is resourceful, adaptable, and a collaborative team player, with the ability to respond to complex system issues and public concerns. About the City of Grand Junction Wastewater Services Division:
The City of Grand Junction Wastewater Division provides wastewater collection services for about 30,000 customers. Our system ensures the safe and efficient transport of wastewater from homes and businesses to treatment facilities, helping protect public health and the environment. The Wastewater Division has a staff of dedicated employees working together in areas such as Collections Operations, Lift Station Maintenance, System Inspection, and Customer Service in order to provide excellent service to our community. Our employees are responsible for monitoring and maintaining hundreds of miles of sewer line, numerous lift stations, thousands of manholes, and the infrastructure necessary to support the City’s wastewater collection system.

What You'll Do: 

  • Install, inspect, clean, and maintain sewer lines, lift stations, and other assigned collections systems or equipment.
  • Investigate leaks and backups, and other issues that may arise; test atmospheric hazards in sewer lines; contain, correct, and clean up sewer overflows.
  • Operate a variety of equipment including dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, tractors, high velocity jetter and vacuum trucks, power and hand tools, and other specialized maintenance and construction equipment
  • Utilize and operate specialty equipment including video equipment to inspect the condition of sewer, storm, collection, and irrigation lines and systems.
  • Create Digital Video Records and logs of all lines inspected; prepare accurate records and reports regarding the structural integrity of the City's storm drain lines, and wastewater collection system. 
  • Locate lines, taps and manholes using electronic locators, metal detectors, CCTV, and dye.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

What We're Looking For:

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in general labor, maintenance, and/or repair and construction of water distribution or sewer collection systems. 
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, a valid Colorado Class “A” Commercial driver's license.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within five (5) years of hire, Collections or Distributions IV certifications, depending upon certification level at time of hire.
