Summary

We are looking for an Investigator who will perform scheduled sampling throughout the distribution and collection systems and in the wholesale customer areas. This position performs sampling in response to system events; to address and resolve customer complaints and water quality issues.

Job Responsibilities

  • Attend daily meetings. Run daily sampling routes 
  • Perform applicable seasonal variable, bacteriological, chemical, and physical sampling and record results
  • Clean and maintain vehicles, sampling, and field monitoring equipment  
  • Investigate and resolve customer complaints. Maintain records of work and submit written reports 
  • Methods, materials, and equipment used in seasonal and system sampling requirements
  • Regulatory sampling requirements for distribution and collection systems
  • Policies for procurement and service contracts
  • Computerized Maintenance Management and Customer Complaint/Incident Tracking systems
  • Basic Geographic Information System (GIS) and geospatial depiction of sample sites, sample routes, and customer complaint/incident points
  • Familiarity with chemical terms and National Sanitation Foundation requirements for water treatment chemicals

Required Education and Experience

At the time of application, applicant must:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Michigan S4 or D license within three (3) years of Level 1 designation

This position requires the ability to climb, bend, twist, carry, stack, dig, shovel, hit, push, pull and other efforts requiring considerable physical strength. This position also requires the ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, walk, stand, or work for long periods of time, demonstrate normal color perception, hear audible alarms, detect abnormal equipment sounds, visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night.

Employees will be required to wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment; perform in confined space, elevated and underground work.

Environmental Working Requirements

Work is performed at the plants or in a field environment. This position requires the ability to work in all conditions involving exposure to outside elements and seasonal weather. Work may be performed near open water, systems with hazardous chemicals that are acidic, highly corrosive, heat producing and potentially explosive. Work may be performed in confined spaces, hazardous areas that require respiratory protection and personal protective equipment (PPE), and under slippery and wet conditions.

Other Requirements:

Valid Michigan Driver’s License

Ability to work irregular hours, commute to GLWA facilities and work sites.
