Description

Performs work and operates equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City sewer facilities and systems, and serves as ‘Back Up Operator of Record’ during the Division Manager’s absence.

Examples of Duties

  • Operates light, medium, and heavy-sized construction and power equipment, such as the sewer television equipment and high-pressure sewer jet truck.
  • Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking tools after use.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to the supervisor.
  • Services sewer lift and other pump stations.
  • Corrects backups in sewer lines.
  • Installs and replaces pipes and manholes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent; possession of an Ohio EPA Wastewater Collection License for an Operator II; possession of a valid CDL Class A License with air brake and tanker endorsements; 3 years of related experience as an Operator I.

Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation.
Knowledge of the laws governing motorized equipment operation.
Knowledge of building, grounds and street maintenance equipment, materials, and practices
Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations.

ADMINISTRATIVE SKILL SET
Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects.

Ability to apply logical thinking to solve practical problems.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Supplemental Information

Employee is regularly required to walk, sit, see, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, speak, hear and lift/move up to 100 pounds.

Employee must work in a variety of weather conditions, occasionally works in pits, in traffic, and is exposed to fumes, odors and wet conditions.  Employee may be called for duty after hours, on weekends, and holidays.
