JOB SUMMARY:
The Field Tech Crew Leader (FTCL) reports to the Field Supervisor for coordination of assigned projects. In accordance with all safety regulations, the FTCL will provide oversight and participate in the work to complete Water/Wastewater projects for the Public Works Department. The FTCL will possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills with the public as well as work productively with a team of assigned employees. The FTCL will share knowledge and provide training to aid in subordinate employee's professional growth.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serves as a team lead to assigned staff and responsible for coordinating daily work activities.
- Performs the daily operations of the Water Distribution/Wastewater Collection Field Operations; assures that all actions are completed safely.
- Installs, maintains, or repairs water and sewerIines and appurtenances.
- Conducts utility maintenance and repair utilizing equipment, materials, and tools required to complete work orders; inspects water lines and sewer pipes.
- Collects necessary materials, tools, equipment, and instructions before arriving at the job site.
- Performs work assignments; follow all city and departmental regulations and safety requirements.
- Contributes to work site actions to assure that safety rules and regulations are followed, and that the work zone, traffic control, and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
- Operates light and heavy machinery, power tools and equipment in accordance with all safety guidelines.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations; recognizes, avoids, and reports unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
- Responds to emergency maintenance requests during normal hours and after hours.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Burnet and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; and maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information.
- Performs skilled labor to include, but not limited, to repairing water leaks, sewer lines, streets, reading water meters, maintenance and general construction.
- Checks and maintains lift stations, and pump
- Cleans sewer lines with high pressure sewer cleaning
- Video and document sewer lines with mainline camera equipment
- Checks ground water storage tanks for waterlevels
- Sets, flushes, and repairs fire
- Read WaterMeters
- Demonstrate high ethical standards, trustworthiness, and personal integrity.
- Regular and punctual attendance is required at all times.
- Ability to work on-call, evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work after hours, weekends and holidays (scheduled and nonscheduled)
- Ability to respond to after hour emergencies as needed within a half hour of notification.

- Knowledge of safety standards for light/heavy equipment operations and other safety requirements needed to maintain and repair W/WW infrastructure.
- Knowledge of various computer programs including: Excel, Word and e-mail programs.
- Skill in completing maintenance and repair work orders.
- Skill in reading and interpreting plans, schematics, and specifications.
- Skill in following directions of supervisor.
- Skill in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining water, wastewater, water meters, and specialty equipment and control systems.
- Skill in promoting and enforcing safe work practices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 3-5 years of Water/Wastewater field maintenance experience. Experience in a Crew Lead role is preferred, but not required.
- Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Must possess a valid Class B CDL Texas Driver's License or have the ability to maintain.
- TCEQ Class C Distribution and Class II Wastewater Collection License is required.
- Must be able to pass drug screening and background check.
- Regular attendance and reliability are critical to City operations.
- Must maintain an insurable record while employed.
