Position Summary
The Wastewater Technician 2 assists in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Mustang Special Utility District’s wastewater collection system. This position supports system monitoring, sewer line cleaning, lift station inspections, and routine infrastructure maintenance. The Technician works with equipment such as vacuum trucks, jet trailers, skid steers, service trucks, and generators, helping ensure wastewater lines, manholes, and lift stations remain clean and functional. The role includes inspecting pumps, motors, valves, and control systems, documenting system performance, and supporting regulatory compliance. By contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the wastewater system, the Technician helps maintain reliable and environmentally responsible services for the community.
Essential Functions:
- System Maintenance and Repairs: Assists with routine inspections and maintenance of pumps, motors, valves, control systems, sewer mains, laterals, and manholes. They perform daily lift station checks, recording pump hours, site conditions, and other operational data. The Operator supports sewer line cleaning, debris removal, blockage relief, and high pressure washing of manholes and wet wells, ensuring proper system function.
- Equipment Operation and Maintenance: This position operates or assists with equipment such as vacuum trucks, jet trailers, skid steers, service trucks, and generators. The Operator performs pre and post trip inspections, conducts basic preventive maintenance, and reports equipment issues to ensure safe and reliable operation. They help load, prepare, and maintain tools and materials needed for field tasks.
- Regulatory, Documentation & Communication: Completes work orders, documents hours, and maintains accurate field records. They assist with basic data entry for regulatory reporting and communicate effectively with the Senior Operator and Supervisor regarding task progress, system observations, and maintenance needs.
- Safety, Traffic Control & Emergency Response: Follows all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and assisting with confined space entry setup. They help establish and remove traffic control devices, signs, and barricades to protect work crews and the public. The Operator participates in emergency response efforts, including afterhours and weekend call outs, to support overflow response, blockages, and equipment failures.
Customer and Public Support: Provides courteous customer service by assisting with public inquiries related to wastewater operations and relaying information to senior staff as needed.
QualificationsQualifications
Education:

Experience:
- Required:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in wastewater collection
- Wastewater Collection II License
- Preferred:
- Additional year of experience in wastewater collection
- Basic SCADA knowledge
- Basic GIS Knowledge
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Outdoor Work: You will primarily work in an outdoor environment, utilizing standard equipment such as power tools, hand tools, pumps, heavy equipment, trucks and trailers. It also involves physical activity such as walking, climbing and handling the equipment.
- Safety Gear: Consistently wear protective gear such as safety shoes, safety vests, gloves, and hard hats to ensure safety during fieldwork.
- Flexible Hours: Must be able to work outside of regular business hours to meet regulatory deadlines or respond to emergencies. This includes working early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Will also be subject to oncall rotation.
Conditions Of Employment:
- Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
